Ontology Patterns for Complex Topographic Feature Types

چکیده

Abstract Complex feature types are defined as integrated relations between basic features for a shared meaning or concept. The shared semantic concept is difficult to define in commonly used geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies. The role of spatial relations between complex feature parts was recognized in early GIS literature, but had limited representation in the feature or coverage data models of GIS. Spatial relations are more explicitly specified in semantic technology. In this paper, semantics for topographic feature ontology design patterns (ODP) are developed as data models for the representation of complex features. In the context of topographic processes, component assemblages are supported by resource systems and are found on local landscapes. The topographic ontology is organized across six thematic modules that can account for basic feature types, resource systems, and landscape types. Types of complex feature attributes include location, generative processes and physical description. Node/edge networks model standard spatial relations and relations specific to topographic science to represent complex features. To demonstrate these concepts, data from The National Map of the U.S. Geological Survey was converted and assembled into ODP.

Surface Network Ontology Design Patterns for Linked Topographic Data

The vision of Linked Topographic Data is critical for the Semantic Web, since topographic data are fundamental to a wide range of geoscientific analyses and mapping of geographic phenomena. Terrain datasets are probably the most important for Linked Topographic Data. Terrain is computationally represented using a continuous field data model (2-D surfaces), but the Semantic Web needs discrete ob...

Interaction of a monopole vortex with an isolated topographic feature in a three-layer geophysical flow

In the frame of a three-layer, quasi-geostrophic analytical model of an f -plane geophysical flow, the Lagrangian advection induced by the interaction of a monopole vortex with an isolated topographic feature is addressed. Two different cases when the monopole is located either within the upper or the middle layer are of our interest. In the bottom layer, there is a delta-function topographic f...

Combined Mining: Analyzing Object and Pattern Relations for Discovering Actionable Complex Patterns

Combined mining is a technique for analyzing object relations and pattern relations, and for extracting and constructing actionable complex knowledge (patterns or exceptions) in complex situations. Automated evaluation of generalized topographic maps

To meet the increasing demand for geospatial information at multiple scales, and to shorten update cycles for up-to-date geo-data, national mapping agencies (NMAs) and other data providers have introduced, or are considering the use of, (semi-)automated generalization systems in their production lines. Map generalization inevitably changes certain aspects (accuracy, completeness, etc.) of spati...
